Matsuba Seisakusho's custom keycaps pursue "authentic texture." They utilize precision machining techniques down to 0.01mm, honed through their work with wooden molds for automobile engine casting. Furthermore, skilled craftsmen meticulously polish each keycap by hand, relying on their sense of touch.

We bring the traditional techniques we have preserved to your fingertips, supporting modern creativity.

Ebony keytops

"An aura of serene tranquility, of jet black dignity."
This model luxuriously utilizes "striped ebony," which boasts exceptional density and hardness among many types of fine wood.
Its most distinctive feature is its high specific gravity, so much so that it sinks in water. This "weight" and "hardness" create a solid typing feel that is completely free of any impurities, something that cannot be achieved with resin or other woods.

What you feel through your fingertips is the smoothness of polished metal and the moist texture unique to natural wood. The sound that resonates with each tap is incredibly low and quiet, creating a comfortable rhythm for typing.

It's an experience like sharpening your mind in a deep, quiet forest.
For those seeking unwavering stability and refined quality as a professional tool, this is the ultimate choice.

Wooden keycaps

"Breathing, the warmth and precision of nature"
Selected from the finest walnut and maple in Fuchu City, Hiroshima Prefecture, a city renowned for its furniture making, this is Matsuba Seisakusho's standard model. Each piece is meticulously carved from a single, luxurious slab of wood, using the "0.01mm precision" honed through years of woodworking experience.

Without any coloring, we deliberately highlighted the unique characteristics of each material using oils and urethane. The moist texture that clings to your fingertips will mold to the shape of your fingers the more you use them, developing a unique luster and becoming a "lifetime item."

The natural wood's inherent elasticity gently absorbs the impact of keystrokes. The rounded, mellow sound of the keys transforms your daily typing into a pleasant experience, much like playing a wooden instrument.

Aluminum keycaps

"The epitome of precision, an industrial aesthetic."
Using the latest NC machines, the form is carved from high-purity aluminum with precision down to 0.01 mm, truly the epitome of precision. What you feel at your fingertips is a "cold, unyielding rigidity" in stark contrast to wood. The firm fitting, which allows no flex whatsoever, transforms the HHKB Studio's keystrokes into something more direct and refined.

With its subtly gleaming industrial sheen and the satisfying weight characteristic of metal, this tool is sure to become the ultimate tool, embodying unwavering reliability on the desk of a professional striving for efficiency and precision.

Wooden palm rest for HHKB Studio

New product development started with abandoning conventional concepts.

The "HHKB Studio," developed under the leadership of the US team, is heavier and larger compared to the traditional HHKB, seemingly not designed for portability. By starting with the concept of abandoning previous notions, the new product was developed without incorporating a roof function and with a depth of 80mm, resulting in a compact and user-friendly design that pairs perfectly with the HHKB Studio. Additionally, 6mm thick striped ebony plates are embedded on both sides to the corners, adding robustness and a sense of luxury. Furthermore, the length remains the same at 294mm, ensuring versatility for use with traditional HHKB models.

The concept of the “Guide”

"The 'Gesture Pad,' a concept central to HHKB Studio's pinnacle functionality, is a touch-sensitive sensor integrated to facilitate intuitive analog adjustments like swift screen transitions and volume control. Designed to maximize this feature, the 'Gesture Pad Guide' enables dramatic improvement in operation simply by tracing the Gesture Pad with your thumb, placed conveniently in front of the HHKB Studio.

The 'Gesture Pad Guide,' currently pending patent, introduces an entirely new concept that allows users to find their preferred position by adjusting its orientation and flipping it. Its smooth touch, crafted from premium wood, undoubtedly enhances your work efficiency."

Using them together makes for a more convenient and efficient experience

To make the most efficient use of the HHKB Studio, it's undeniable that using the "80mm depth Palm Rest" and the "Gesture Pad Guide" together is an effective method. This is because placing the palm rest in front of the HHKB Studio can interfere with the gesture pad, making it inconvenient to use. When you place any other palm rest with the "Gesture Pad Guide" in between, the user experience is expected to dramatically improve. Furthermore, imagine the experience of using the "Kikkou-Naguri Wooden Palm Rest," handcrafted by artisans, in conjunction with it. It's sure to be an exquisite experience for you. That's because we created it with that hope in mind.
