DTM Desk
CONCEPT
A Dedicated Solid Wood Desk for Music Production
The Matsuba Factory DTM Desk is more than simply a desk for your computer and audio equipment.
Crafted from solid wood, it is designed to provide a comfortable and intuitive environment for every stage of music production—from recording and composing to editing and mixing.
Music production is a creative process.
A workspace does not create the music itself. However, we believe that the quality of the environment and the comfort of the tools you interact with every day enrich the time you spend creating.
By combining the warmth and beauty of solid hardwood with true furniture craftsmanship and the functionality required for music production, we have created a workspace where creativity can remain the focus.

Furniture Craftsmanship for Music Production

The standard model features a 30mm solid wood desktop and 40mm solid wood legs to support heavy displays, speakers, and rack-mounted equipment.
While built for strength, the desk is designed to bring the beauty of fine furniture into the studio.
Each desk is crafted by skilled furniture makers in Fuchu, Hiroshima, a region renowned for furniture making.
Using carefully selected solid wood and local woodworking expertise, it is crafted not simply to support equipment, but as furniture for a creative environment.
It offers the refined quality and lasting durability that set fine furniture apart from ordinary production desks.
FEATURES
A Modular Design for a Flexible Creative Workspace
This DTM desk is built around a modular concept, treating desktop units and side units as independent components rather than a fixed, integrated structure.
Designed to adapt to changing production styles and equipment setups, the system allows you to add, remove, and rearrange modules as your workspace evolves.
Rather than being a finished product with a fixed layout, it is designed as a workspace that can grow with you over time.

Desktop Units That Keep Essential Equipment Within Reach

Two types of desktop units are available to suit different workflows.
The 2U Rack Unit accommodates up to 2U of standard rack-mounted equipment.
The 1U Rack + Wooden Tray Unit combines a 1U rack with a removable solid wood tray. While stored inside the unit, the tray functions like a drawer. It can also be removed and used independently as a desktop organizer for pens, small devices, controllers, and other accessories.
Openings at both the front and rear of the tray make it easy to carry while also allowing charging and connection cables to pass through, keeping desktop controllers and portable devices neatly connected.
By keeping only the equipment you need within easy reach and combining the desktop units with the optional side unit racks, the system achieves an effective balance between usability and expandability.
Side Unit Racks That Expand Your Workspace
Each mobile side unit rack accommodates up to 12U of rack-mounted equipment.
Its height is aligned with the desktop, allowing it to function as a seamless extension of the work surface. Desktop units can also be relocated to the top of the side unit rack, giving you greater freedom to organize your workspace according to your production style and equipment configuration.
As your studio evolves, the system provides flexible expansion while maintaining an efficient balance between storage capacity and usable desk space.

Rack Design for Accessibility and Maintenance

Both the desktop units and side unit racks feature an open-back design.
This improves ventilation while making cable routing, equipment installation, replacement, and maintenance easier. The design is intended to adapt smoothly as your production environment changes over time.
Thoughtful Cable Management
A music production workspace naturally brings together power, USB, audio, MIDI, and speaker cables.
The metal cable rack features a perforated design that reduces weight while maintaining a clean appearance. The perforations also allow hook-and-loop cable straps to be attached wherever required, making it easy to organize and secure cables.
The result is a workspace that remains functional, easy to maintain, and visually uncluttered.

Designed for Accurate Monitoring

The desk is designed with careful consideration for speaker placement, monitor height, listening position, and the relationship between displays and speakers to support accurate monitoring.
Optional configurations include separating the speaker stands from the desk itself or using mounting methods that reduce vibration transfer to the desktop.
Rather than simply holding equipment, the entire desk is designed as an environment for listening critically, making informed decisions, and completing creative work.
Furniture Quality with Lasting Durability

Built to support the weight of displays, speakers, keyboards, and rack-mounted equipment, the desk combines a robust structure with carefully balanced proportions that minimize visual bulk.
The substantial presence of solid wood is complemented by refined detailing, creating a piece of furniture that feels warm and welcoming within a studio environment without appearing unnecessarily heavy.
Designed to Evolve with Your Studio and Your Life
Music production workflows naturally evolve as experience grows and equipment changes.
Thanks to its modular structure, the layout of racks and storage can be reconfigured as your setup develops. If the desk is no longer used for music production in the future, the rack modules can be removed, allowing it to continue serving as a high-quality solid wood desk.
Rather than a piece of purpose-built equipment with a limited lifespan, it is designed as furniture that can remain part of your workspace for years to come.

STORY
How the DTM Desk Began
The idea for the Matsuba Factory DTM Desk began when the daughter of the company's founder experienced professional music recording firsthand.
As we learned more about real-world music production, we realized that conventional desks often fall short when it comes to equipment layout, cable management, ergonomics, and accommodating future changes to a studio setup.
Led by Matsuba Factory, the project brought together the expertise of HEREDIA KOMIYAMA, responsible for the product design, skilled furniture makers from Fuchu, Hiroshima—one of Japan's leading furniture-producing regions—and Mr. Adachi of Miyaji Gakki RPM, whose extensive experience in professional recording environments contributed valuable insight throughout the development process.
Together, we carefully considered equipment layout, ergonomics, cable management, durability, acoustic performance, and long-term maintainability to create a desk designed specifically for music production.
